Between fear... and sex... is the passion! Cheesy aphorisms like this are rampant throughout The Passion and for the most part, against all odds, they seem to work. I'm still not sure how I feel about this kind of magical realism, but this was unlike anything I've read before. At times I was amazed, at others I rolled my eyes. Overall though, an incredibly imaginative book.

A far cry from Garcia Marquez (although favorably compared to Marquez on the book jacket), this book was a disappointment. Barely coherent ramblings, a weak attempt at dark magical realism, and a bleak outlook on humanity and people's ability to overcome obstacles. Also a distorted and disturbing look at love. I guess I didn't really like it that much at all, but I finished it, and I suppose there were some redeeming qualities that are keeping me from only giving it 1 star (although I can't reme

breathtaking. she has a way of being utterly romantic without flowery, over-the-top language. she weaves stories with such command that i'm left with my mouth hanging open by the end.
