After reading this book the second time around, I have to say I truly appreciated the dark humor as well as the magical, dark realism of the characters and setting. It's a book that stays with you after reading it, and overall I found it a thoroughly engaging story. I just wish the other stories that came after this one didn't go down the road of "memoiresque" victim fic. JT Leroy is like a bad dinner dish that leaves one with a horrible feeling for the next couple of days. You can't throw up, yet you feel so ill for days afterwards the so-called meal. Shallow times' form of culture of sorts. ...more

Disturbing, but amazing that such a short novel is so powerful. Actually when I heard about this - a 12 year old boy who likes to dress as a girl and prositutes himself - I couldn't believe it, because it sounded so much like the novel I was writing. (The similarities pretty much end there.) I feel "Sarah" is LeRoy's best work. ...more

I actually did not know how to rate Sarah. It was not all that well written, but the story behind the author is fantastic and the the book sort of freaked me out so much I could not just give it two stars.
