The inclusion of the journal entries is very interesting and revealing. I wish Laura had found people or sources to help her understand her transition sooner. I found myself yelling at the book from time to time because of the terminology that she was using to refer to herself, but I very much understand that this was the only rhetoric she knew to understand herself. that thing where you read someone's memoir and you like them a bit less than you did before but it also humanizes them. it's also an interesting choice that she spent so much time talking of her trans woes pre-transition and almost nothing about transitioning... i would have loved to read about her trans joy as well. ...more

The rawness and vulnerability of her story flooded me of memories of reading through milk crates full of zines back in the late 90s early 2000s. It is punk rock and queer and full of unabashed, uncensored personal truth-telling.
