This book first came onto my horizon when Mr. Maupin came on to the World Service Book Club. I was enchanted with his speaking style and intrigued by some of the plot points given away. So, when looking for something light and fun for my commute (my brain and reading time is taken over by law school) I grabbed this off audible. What a fantastic choice it turned out to be! Need something to connect with your queer roots? Or maybe something with 3-page king chapters to fly through like a magazine on an airplane? Wanna be surrounded by 1970’s pop culture and politics in the frothiest way possible? Tales of the City it is! Just don’t think too hard about how annoying the characters would be in real life or how just about every plot point would cause this book to be cancelled in 2023.

Loved this book. It's the best in the series. It seems to be a little deeper than the others, but still has all the wacky charm. It was great to have many of the characters united and what a closing line for Mrs. Madrigal. I hope Maupin continues the series but who knows. The characters seem like friends, and so does San Francisco.

read this a LOOONNNGGG time ago, and just re-read it as I bought it and Further Tales of the City for $3 a piece. The book is a great easy read when you feel the need to run away to 70s California, and who doesn't need to do that every once in awhile?
