Those who have read Ariel Tachna's A partnership in blood series will be more familiar with some of the characters with what the characters in the book are talking about and you won't feel so lost. So i would urge you to go pick that series up first which is a really good one and have a read before tackling this one.
In this book the werewolves are having fertility issues and turn to the vampires for help. I won't let the whole cat out of the bag because their is more than just my quick summary.But it was really good read.
