What a wonderful book! The writing style is difficult to get into at first but, once you get the hang of it, really brings out the characterization of the protagonist Thomas Cromwell, and highlights the human ability to be in the present while simultaneously remembering the past and planning for the future. It also underlines, in a way that I have not read before, that people are the sum of their experiences, that nothing anyone does ever happens in a vacuum.
The book is at once mundane and epic.

While this was fantastically written it just didn’t draw me in and ended up being a slog to get through.
