Really? This Lord of the Flies descendent is making readers go nuts? Collins really needed an editor in the first few chapters; it got better after that, but I was shocked at Collins' lazy way with words. As for the story, it is quite obviously written with an eye in female teen readership, with the fashion show and the tepid romance angle. Cat read these and thought I should give it a shot. I admit to being leery of "popular" books, especially popular young adult books, most especially popular young adult books by female authors. So, with some trepidation, I gave it a shot... and found a truly enjoyable, affecting series of books. Wholly entertaining -- if dark and fairly depressing -- from start to finish.

I really have not devoured a book the way I did The Hunger Games in such a long time. It took concepts from Lord of the Flies, Survivor, The Road, and Veronica Mars, and mashed them into an intense and suspenseful thrill-ride. It truly tormented me as I sat up in bed at 3AM just waiting for a breathing point in the story so I could set the book down. Yay books!
