Always excellent to go back and re-read. A tour de force. Immaculately researched.

The first chapters on the origins of WWII in the Pacific are well done and provide context for everything to come: why the US was so invested in having China be a major player in the war, why the Japanese felt compelled to attack the US/Britain/Netherlands in east Asia, and why the British strategy in the Far East was doomed to failure. The timeline leading up to Dec. 7, 1941 is well done and shows that, despite wh
