Always excellent to go back and re-read. A tour de force. Immaculately researched.
The first chapters on the origins of WWII in the Pacific are well done and provide context for everything to come: why the US was so invested in having China be a major player in the war, why the Japanese felt compelled to attack the US/Britain/Netherlands in east Asia, and why the British strategy in the Far East was doomed to failure.
