An unfortunate footnote to the excellent To Kill a Mockingbird.
While Watchman shares a similar style to Mockingbird, with a lose narrative pieced together by separate tales, it absolutely fails to capture the charm of the earlier book. While again focusing on racism in the south this book, which apparently was written before Mockingbird but is set later, Watchman in many ways is a more nuanced story, attempting to provide a perspective on why rational, educated members of society are still racis ...more
