Having loved Ready Player One I ended upcoming away from Clines follow-up book feeling a little let-down. Cline really goes back to the same well here, filling the book with pop-culture references and quotes, and once again linking to the main storyline. Unfortunately this time I don't think it works as well for a number of reasons:

At times, it's hard to take the story seriously, even though I think that was the authors intention. Whereas Ready Player One seems to fit so well with Ernest Cline's style of writing, here it drags the story down.
