I liked this quite a bit up until the last 10-15%. Then it all fell apart for me, not exactly sure why. I think part of it is the descriptions of war and combat were not very good, kind of a mishmashy mess. The author is better at smaller scale interactions than larger scenes. A very good book. A unique take on fantasy, focusing on the ruling of kingdoms, rather than the heroic acts and immense battles. Reminded me a lot of The Goblin Emperor.

Gets a little bogged down in the middle but an excellent plot helps redeem the ending
