Heir of Fire was so much different than the first two books in the Throne of Glass series. I don't know how to pinpoint it, but it was just the overall feeling while reading Heir of Fire. It could be the introduction of new characters, or the separation of previous characters from one another, but something felt different.

The first thing that I have to say about Heir of Fire is that is started out rather slow to me. It took me a while to really get into reading it 12/11/2022: Reread on audiobook!

Heir of Fire was so much different than the first two books in the Throne of Glass series. I don't know how to pinpoint it, but it was just the overall feeling while reading Heir of Fire. It could be the introduction of new characters, or the separation of previous characters from one another, but something felt different.

The first thing that I have to say about Heir of Fire is that is started out rather slow to me. It took me a while to really get into reading it, where I was totally immersed in the first two books from the beginning. I was a little worried at first, but I stuck through it and I am thankful that I did. It really paid off in the end. The second half of Heir of Fire is where everything happens and things are revealed. There is a lot of build up to it and it may seem pointless or tedious, but if you are having trouble just stick it out. Things fall into place in the end.

The character growth in this book for Celaena was phenomenal. We learn so much more about her past and most of it really broke my heart. It solidified her as a whole and made me see her in a new light. Things that I already knew about her, but experiencing them with her in memories was heartbreaking. I honestly teared up while reading through some of her memories. I have so much more respect and love for her character after reading Heir of Fire. Dorian felt so much more mature in this book than the previous two books. I think that the discovery of his magic really sobered him into maturity. Chaol is still grieving for the relationship that he and Celaena shared, all while still trying to protect her, even though she was so far away. Chaol and Dorian's relationship suffers because of Chaol's secrecy and his insecurities and perhaps prejudice of Celaena's fae heritage. I really love Chaol and I can only hope that he has a happy ending before the end. I am so hoping for that for him.

There were many new characters introduced in Heir of Fire. The most noteworthy were Rowan, Aedion, and Manon, but I also have a soft spot for Emrys as well. Rowan is just as much a tortured soul as Celaena is, and think that is the reason they connect so well in this book. A romance did not form between them, only a friendship, but it isn't hard to see the love forming between them. I just loved Aedion. He has been through just as much heartache and torture as his cousin, and he still stands tall. He clearly loves his cousin and misses her. He believes in her so much, and it's really beautiful. I really adored what I saw of him in Heir of Fire. Manon was an interesting character, and I am curious to see how her story plays out. She is inherently evil, a witch, but I can sense something changing in her. I hope that I am right. Emrys was such a delightful character, and I hope to see more of him in the next book.

Sarah J. Maas is a plot weaving goddess! The depth of the story is phenomenal. The way that the plot grows and the dots connect as each book comes along is simply genius. A ridiculous amount of planning and plotting has gone into this series that I cannot applaud Maas more for. I seriously get a high on the sheer thought of how intricately woven this story is. This world is vast and beautiful, and I love it.

Deep down I really adore Dorian, so his fate at the end of Heir of Fire broke my heart so much. I don't know what the future will hold for him, but if things cannot be mended I might not be all right. I need Dorian to survive until the end.

The emotions in this book are paramount to the other books in this series. The feelings felt throughout this book are so intense. I haven't felt so much while reading a book in a long while.

Overall, I have so much love for this series. It has captured a part of my heart that I did not know existed. If you have not experienced this phenomenal series then you are missing out on something wholly unparallelled. Something entirely unique and so very special. If you have not read this series yet then you should give it a try. I recommend this series to all, especially those that love fantasy.

Umm I don't know what happened but rereading this book just hit me harder. Definitely bumping it up to 5 stars. So much happened - from growth to information - that my mind is still spinning. Plus we get the sweet angel that is Abraxos. Very happy I'm doing this reread.

After finishing the first two books in this series in about 2 days, I went into this one with such high hopes. And it wasn't that I disliked it, I was just...bored? Underwhelmed? I'm not really sure what. I just know that this one didn't pack as much punch as the rest with most of the book kind of dragging until those last few chapters.

I had one friend describe this book to me as the New Moon of the series and now that I've finished it, I get what she means. I felt like I spent most of the book just waiting for something big to happen that I didn't pay attention to a lot of details. Because that's what this book is, details and introducing other characters. But like in New Moon, where I spent the whole book going 'where's Edward?' and not paying attention to the relationship happening with Jake, I found myself searching for those moments with Chaol and Dorian, and not really letting myself get invested in the new characters - that is until the end when everything went to hell.

I will say, I'm a little confused about one part. The king outlawed magic but he's okay with having witches? I guess because they serve his purpose it's all right? I don't know. That felt a little weird. And the chapters with them up until the actual War Games were booorrring. Like why do I care about you? I'm assuming Manon is super important later (cause almost everyone I know loves her), but I really disliked her here.

Rowan is still a dick (I stand by my earlier declaration). And I can't decide if he's a weak character or a strong one... I can see arguments to both. It will be interesting to see how he progresses.

This book was chock full of set up. From Celaena accepting her past and future to Dorian trying to understand his magic and finally Chaol figuring out where exactly his loyalties lie. And I will say, WTF was that ending????? I'm a little scared to go into book 4...

PS: Chaol is my hero and nothing better happen to my precious baby. ...more

I have reread this series so many times but sometimes when I feel like a slump is coming on I go and reread binge and I always reread this series or ACOTAR series. They always pull me out of a slump. I got so invested in all the characters and the world. Celaena is probably one of my favorite female characters of all time. It's a toss up between her and Feyre. I love them both so much.

Just like the other times I've read this book, it's STILL just as AMAZING as it was the first 2 or 3 times I read this book. It's one of my favorites in this series!!! I never skim the pages or avoid chapters because I've read it before. NOPE it's just as fantastic now as it was the first time I read it.

PERFECTION STILL!!!

LOVED IT!!!! What else is there to say, I am never one to ruin or spoil a book for someone so my reviews are how I felt. This whole series is amazing and Sarah J Maas is a master at story telling. I want to be Celaena...lol

Heir of Fire Review on K-Books

There are absolutely no words to describe the excitement that ensued when I finally held a copy of this book in my hands. Considering a year or two ago I wasn't really a big fan of epic fantasy this series is without a doubt one of my favourites. It was Throne of Glass, the first installment in this epic series, that made me love fantasy. So thank you Sarah J Maas. You are a queen!

Seperated from the one person she has grown to love and trust and knowing that when she returns nothing will be the same Celaena embarks on the next step of her journey alone. Alone in the land of Wendlyn all eyes are on her. But will she change who she is to succeed and survive?

Heir of Fire is without a doubt the best installment of this six-part-series to date. It is absolutely phenomenal and I could barely put it down. Saying that it did take me quite a while to read this book. It's a huuuuge book. But I wouldn't have it any other way because it is pure genius and perfection. Heir of Fire is one of those books that you have got to take your time with. Otherwise it could be information overload. This is definitely a game changer in this series and you are faced with so much stuff that you have to go slow and savour every last moment of it.

Celaena, Chaol and Dorian, our favourite three characters from the first two installments of the series are not our only lead characters anymore. I still adore all three of these characters and they remain to be my favourites but we have some new main characters and I love, love, love them. First let's start with our three main ones from the beginning. Celaena is going through a tough time. She not only faces an upcoming battle for real she really has an internal battle going on in this book and she grows so much as a character. I love her. I really think she is one of the strongest female YA heroines we have right now. Even when she is vulnerable and shows her weaker side she is still totally kick-ass! Dorian and Chaol have their own little struggle going on... with their friendship. They are not the same and I really wish they would go back to their brotherly bond because I love these two. They need to work it all out and go back to the bromance!

Enter our new characters. We have the insanely evil and fabulous Manon. Manon is a witch with Iron Claws and Teeth and she is most definitely going to be out antagonist in coming books and stir up some trouble. I love her! She is fantastic! I just love the extra layer she gives this story. It's utterly fantastic. Then we have the amazing Fae Prince Rowan. I FREAKING LOVE ROWAN! He is Celaena's new companion/trainer. He is hard and cruel with a softer side undearneath just waiting to show. I love him. I love his and Celaena's relationship and how it grows. It's one of the things I loved most about this book. Still Team Chaol guys.

Heir of Fire was without a doubt the most epically amazing book I have read so far this year. It was utterly phenomenal, heart-stopping and heart-breaking all at the same time. I couldn't put it down and it just took me on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. This book has really shown me that Sarah J Maas is not only a great author she is a phenomenal author. She is absolutely fantastic and she really knows how to build not only a great fantasy world but a storyline with lots of layers that keeps you guessing and guessing about how it will all work out in the end. I can't wait to ride out this storyline until the end.

The Throne of Glass series, is definitely one of my favourites of all time and is definitely my favourite Epic Fantasy series. It's just utterly phenomenal. We are officially half way through the series and I am dying to get my hands on the next installment of the series. I am both excited and terrified for the next 3 books and to see what will happen in this amazing series. I loved Heir of Fire and I can't wait for book 4. ...more

I absolutely love this series. It's the kind that leaves you breathless and obsessed, begging for more. It started out as feeling rather like a light romantic fantasy in Throne of Glass, but by the time we get through Heir of Fire it has morphed into an epic fantasy, more in the vein of the prequel stories, but even better. There was tons of character development for every character in the series, including the new ones.

I enjoyed reading about all of the new characters, even Manon who I was not I absolutely love this series. It's the kind that leaves you breathless and obsessed, begging for more. It started out as feeling rather like a light romantic fantasy in Throne of Glass, but by the time we get through Heir of Fire it has morphed into an epic fantasy, more in the vein of the prequel stories, but even better. There was tons of character development for every character in the series, including the new ones.

I enjoyed reading about all of the new characters, even Manon who I was not so crazy about at first. I still don't know exactly how she will fit into things or what choices she will ultimately end up making, but she is a rather fascinating character. Another new character that I found fascinating was Rowan. I didn't like him too much at first. I thought he was brutal and unfeeling, but as his character developed I grew to like him right along with Celaena.

We saw Celaena go from a lethal assassin who was so very cocky and sure of herself to completely broken in Crown of Midnight and in Heir of Fire she is very much a broken person through much of the book, struggling to get through the death of her friend Nehemia and what has happened between her and Chaol, and everything else that has happened in her life. She changes so much in this book as she learns how to control her magic and like who she is. She gains a mentor and friend in this book, and I was surprised that relationship didn't go down the romance path as I thought it would. It was actually very refreshing and I am actually happy about that, because I have loved Chaol from the beginning and I'm still holding out hope that they will reunite.

Speaking of Chaol, he had some choices to make in this book and I was so glad when he finally made them. I understood why he was conflicted and didn't dislike him for it. It was nice to see his character grow and change right along with everyone else. I loved the tongue lashing he got from Dorian, it was so very true and he needed to hear it. And Dorian...I loved him in this book, but the way things ended for him, oh my goodness. Waiting for the fourth book will be sheer torture.

EDIT: This was the last good book in the series as far as I'm concerned. There are too many inconsistencies in the characters and the author ruined the ones I liked in the next book. Other people really like it, but I can't recommend it. ...more

well....this was a very good middle of a series book. I found it tough to get through....but I know it was necessary. It set up the story, gave us a lot of background and...continued the story. But gah, I found it boring boring boring. It wasn't the action and adventure the last one was for me.

I loved reading this series... After a long while I want to read the next book hungrily to know what will happen.

The ending was like what the hell just happened? Sorcha was killed by the king!! Why Dorian didn't stop it. He was so eager to take her and flee from there... From his own castle but didn't stop his father's men from killing her. Did he really love her? Then instead of standing against his father he went into submission mode. I don't know if I can write a decent review so long after the fact.

Let me just say that I really really loved Crown of Midnight. But this book took me 8 months to read. Me. The super fast reader.

I almost cared more about Manon's story than Caelana/Aerin's.

The end definitely picked up speed. Enough that I don't want to quit the series or anything. I really want the 4th book to be good.
