What Members Thought

I’m looking for the right words to do this review because Sadie left me mindlessly bawling, drowning in my tears and feeling very raw because of the tragedy that Sadie, Maddie and even their selfish mother Claire had to live.
That said I’m going to try and get my brain together to do this review!
Sadie by Courtney Summers is a Young Adult Contemporary Mystery.
My Rating: 4.5 mind blowing Stars

My Opinion:
How do you describe a book that mentally takes you to new levels? Sadie loved her sister and did everything she could for her. Her sister's death brings new levels to desperation, loneliness, and vengeance for Sadie. She wants what was taken away from her but, of course, that isn't going to happen, so she plans and enacts her revenge and does what the police couldn't or wouldn't do. This book had me emotionally charged from the beginning and there are several passages that I loved in ...more

But 'She’s dead' is the reason I’m still alive.
'She’s dead' is the reason I’m going to kill a man."
This was a complete surprise - it's such a good story. I'd heard hype and even some good reviews but I had no idea the wonder of a story I would find. I knew very little going in (and you should too!) It's told through alternating POV's - One is of Sadie as she goes on a journey. The other is a Podcast narrator as he tries to uncover the story of Sadie, who months later, is missing.

I loved this book. I like the ending and how it wasn't all done in a neat and clean way that most mystery books are done....most are done a little to clean. I might be the only one that likes this ending but we all know what happens.
Sadie is one of two girls with a mother with addiction problems. She pretty much has taken over raising her youngest sister since their mother is checked out most of the time. Mattie is the little sister who Sadie has given her all too. She has helped Mattie love the ...more

2.5 stars. I was on pace to give this 3.5 or 4 stars but the ending ruined it for me. I felt like there was too much left unresolved-like what happened?! I like a good unresolved ending sometimes, this just wasn’t a good one in my opinion. I read this entire book following Sadie’s perspective and the podcast’s details. I get that maybe the podcast doesn’t find out everything. But we as readers should’ve been given one last chapter in Sadie’s perspective to get some answers, even if not all of th

I think if I would have read this at a different time in a different mindset I would have liked it a lot more. Great writing, interesting story. I can see why everyone likes this one. I had no problems with it honestly. It also could be that I usually have harder time getting invested in audiobooks when I’m only listening sporadically while driving short distances over a week or more. But the audio version was exceptional with the full cast. I will definitely read more by this author.

this was such a well-done story. I like how the author intermingled the podcast with the "real" story. The audio I listened to was fantastic.
There would be quite a few trigger warnings for people, but the book doesn't glorify in any of the awful things that happen, you just learn about them slowly as the tale unfolds.
I would recommend this book to many people, and it makes total sense that it was found on the Project Lit List. ...more

this is a seriously fabulous narration of a book, the best i have listened to in a long time.
The story follows Sadie as she tries to avenge the death of her sister.

Can’t recommend this book highly enough. Immersive, heartbreaking and absolutely amazing. I listened to the audiobook and I really think that’s the best way to enjoy this book because of the podcast chapters. The narration was spot on and I read this in one sitting in one day. Fantastic book, will stay with me for a long time.
