A magical retelling of what happened to the Romanov family. During the Bolshevik revolution of 1918, the entire Romanov family is sent into exile. They're cut off from everything they were used to and subject to the whims of the Bolshevik army. Anastasia "Nastya" Romanov believes they will be rescued by the white army, but until then, she'll do everything in her power to keep her family safe even if that means praying to a matroshyka doll that supposedly has a spell inside it.

Wasn't the best, wasn't the worst. It did have me in spots rolling my eyes because everything that could go wrong did and it was just at one point WAY to over the top for me. I will try to review it when I have time. I did love the narrator! ...more

I have always had a fascination with the story of Anastasia Romanov, so when I saw this book I knew it was something I'd have to read.

I loved the magical aspect, with magic ink. It was sad how fear, or the need to control, made it illegal for those who could do magic.

The ending was good and I'd recommend this book.

Fast read. A different take on the Romanov tragedy. What if Anastasia and Alexie survived? Characters were very thought out and believable.

I really liked this book but felt that it would have been better if the first half had gone by faster. Lovely reimagining though!
