This book was very difficult to get into but so worth it in the end. I had just finished The Wicked Deep a couple months ago and was pumped to read Winterwood. I fell in love with that book instantly!! 😍😍 It didn’t quite hook me in like TWD, which is why I had such a hard time in the beginning. I wanted that same magical feeling I felt the minute I started The Wicked Deep. I never quite got that feeling, but it did end up being a really great read.⁣

Nora is a Walker, Walkers are feared and talked about, said to be witches by the whole town of Fir Haven. But Nora is a Walker without Nightshade (magic) in her blood. She ventures into the Wicker Wood every full moon to collect trinkets that have been lost, she at least has passed that gift. But she knows that’s the only time safe to enter these vengeful woods. Her trip into the forest starts out in the beginning of the book and the item she finds this time is a boy, unconscious and burrowed in the snow where he has been for 2 weeks during a bad winter storm. He was the missing boy from Jackjaw Lake Camp for Wayward Boys. And now he has been found by Nora. She brings Oliver home and warms him up, he doesn’t remember anything about the night he went missing or his time in the woods. Nora takes care of him and brings him back to the camp in the morning. ⁣
Now this is where things get weird. Nora finds out from Suzy (a classmate) who got stuck at the boys camp during the snowstorm 2 weeks ago, that there was also a boy who died at the same time Oliver went missing. ⁣
Nora is drawn to Oliver but fears what might have happened that night and wants answers She’s determined to find out what happened to Oliver and the other boy no matter what the consequences. And it just might cost Nora and the others that are involved their lives.⁣

Overall this was a good story with some decent twists and turns, some I saw coming and some I didn’t. It took awhile for me to warm up to it though. I think because I kept comparing it to The Wicked Deep, which I immediately fell in love with. I honestly wish I had read this one first so I wouldn’t have been tainted..lol. ⁣
But by then end I did really enjoy it. I stopped comparing the two and really saw the unique story in front of me. Shea Ernshaw has a wonderful ability to make the characters come to life. You can’t help but feel for Nora the lonely Moon Girl. Or fall for Oliver, even though he may be the villain in the story. The world building was perfect for a spooky, isolated feel and SE brought about just the right amount of magical realism to this story.⁣

I’m adding Shea Ernshaw to my list of beloved authors friends. And highly suggest Winterwood and The Wicked Deep (but maybe read this one first 😁) to those who love Fantasy and Magical Realism with some great world building. ...more

Hi hi hi! So this book was...interesting. That's one thing I will say about Shea Ernshaw's books, they're always interesting. I did enjoy it, but I was hoping to enjoy it a little bit more than I did. I think I had the same problem with this one as I did with Ernshaw's first book The Wicked Deep.

I did enjoy it, but there were times where I just could not for the life of me get into it. My mind was constantly wandering to other thoughts. And that was my issue with her first book. However, saying ...more

I loved this more than I thought I was gonna! So intrigued by the story and characters! I guessed parts of the twists but not all of them, and I was on the edge of my seat trying figure everything out!
