Daisy Jones and the Six Review on K-Books

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author I have seen around the book world quite a lot recently. Mainly her Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo book, but I had not read any of her work. Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author I have seen around the book world quite a lot recently. Mainly her Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo book, but I had not read any of her work. I know a lot of people who absolutely adore her books, but there’s just something that stopped me from picking them up. Maybe because they’re mainly historical and I am more of a fantasy reader. But after I saw the trailer for the adaptation of Daisy Jones and the Six, I decided to finally add this on onto my TBR. Then it sat on my TBR for a while. I have been in the biggest book slump ever, and after hearing wonderful things about the audio edition of this one I decided to give it a try. Holy shit! Why have I not picked this one up before now?! This book has my whole freaking heart. I love it so much, there are no words!

Daisy Jones and the Six is very different from the books that I usually read. Firstly, it is written as an interview script. I know that would be enough for some people to write it off, but I’ve read some books that were written wholly through letters and enjoyed them, so this didn’t put me off. I decided to listen to the audiobook of this and oh my word… I am so glad that I did! As it is written as an interview script, each character has its own narrator. This is the first full cast audiobook that I have listened to and I will definitely be on the lookout for more. The audio edition was phenomenal.

This book tells the story of a fictional 70s rock band, and all the ups and downs that come with it. Right from the start I was obsessed. I absolutely loved Daisy Jones, and I was so invested in her story right from the start. This book will throw your heart through the wringer. I felt every emotion. Happiness, sadness, heartbreak… everything. I adored every single moment of this phenomenal book and this will be a re-read for me… over and over and over. I loved it so much that the day I finished the audiobook, I went and bought the physical copy just so I could have one to hold. It’s just such a beautiful story of loss and love and music and just every hard thing in life that can happen. I just felt every word. It was absolute perfection!

Daisy Jones and the Six is utterly brilliant in every way. And it has definitely made me realise that I need to branch out more and read some genres that are different to my typical read. I loved this book so much, and it has definitely cured my reading slump. While Daisy Jones and the Six was my first book by Taylor Jenkins Reid it will definitely not be my last. I can’t wait to read more from her. If you’ve been debating reading this book… please do! I am so glad I took a chance, and a leap outside of my comfort zone as it definitely paid off.

Alright I just finished this book. I have no idea what's going on. This had the best love story I've ever read/listened to.
I love this book but I also hate this book. Well I love the book, but I just hate Daisy.
I would never have listened to this book if it wasn't for my friend's high rating of it. I just thought it really didn't appeal to me. Set in the 70's about a band that broke up. None of those appeal to me, but I gave it a chance, and it blew me out of the water. If you're going to read ...more

Ok, guys, why didn't I read this sooner? This book was MAGNETIC. I could not put it down. I would have read it in one sitting if I hadn't started it close to bed time and our bodies require this thing called sleep.

Daisy Jones & The Six follows the worlds most influential band from their rise to their fall. This fictional tale is told in an interview setting where the members of the band recount their days. Some tellings match while others don't which just add to the realness feel of this book because not everyone remembers moments exactly the same.

In the era of sex, drugs, and rock & roll, no one was immune - Daisy being hit the hardest. Daisy was an interesting character because she wasn't really likeable most of the time, but you could tell that she was hiding a lot of pain. She didn't want to live in the real world so she spent most of her days drunk or high. She thought she was the best thing since sliced bread and treated everyone around her pretty poorly. But she was an enigma and everyone was drawn to her - even us readers.

Including lead singer of the Six, Billy Dunne. Billy was my favorite character in the beginning. He had drive and vision. He loved his family and wanted to make a good life for him and his band. However, as the book went on, Billy's sobriety because an addiction for control and cracks began to form in the band.

The other band members also played pivotal parts with their recounts added layers to the story that we would never have gotten with only Billy and Daisy. The way the POV's switch back and forth with the interviews creates this really interesting narrative that drives this train until the end. I was 100% involved with them and wanted to know everything. I honestly didn't think that a book only of interviews would make for such a powerful read, but I found that I didn't need the descriptive details that normally fill a novel. The cast of characters really made you visualize the story in a way that I felt I was there with them listening as they were interviewed.

I'm glad I read this before watching the show. It's heighted my excitement and I'm ready to go watch these characters come to life. I'm also ready to check out more from Reid especially after hearing how her books seem to connect to each other in little ways. ...more

First off - the audiobook is the way to go with this one. The narrators did an excellent job of making you feel the characters. That raspy voice of Daisy made her feel like a rockstar. I enjoyed this book - and with multiple points of view - sometimes some of them didn't feel necessary, but they did contribute to the vibe of the book.
