“Great events turn on small hinges.”
I hate that I've owned this since it was published - pre-order, you know - and I somehow kept putting off starting it. What a great story. I flipped this to an audio and the narrator was so good.
Luke was such an easy kid to root for. I liked how The Institute slowly showed what it was. It took chapters, as we got to know the kids and those that were holding them. As we learned what was possible and who could do what, it was waves of shock and horror with how ...more

Do the ends justify the means?
That's a question that this book explores.
Luke is kidnapped and brought to an installation where other kidnapped children reside, children with telekinesis and telepathy. They are put into rigorous testing. They are tortured.

PROs:
I liked the premise. I liked the writing style. I liked that there weren't that many corny dad jokes as Mr. King regularly likes to sprinkle those in his latest works. Some say the ending was too long and convoluted with too much info, but I like having things tied up nicely.
CONs:
Too many political jabs. Mr. King writes like he is stuck in the 80s, but in actuality the book's universe is taking place in the 2000s. He needs to spend some time with teenagers and/or getting up to date on cultu ...more

This book is so good. I give it 5+ stars. I would say it is in the top five best Stephen King books. As good as The Shining, The Stand, It and The Gunslinger. King is the master and this book is simply amazing. I can't wait until this book is made into a movie and hopefully whoever makes the movie does it justice because this book is truly something special. Loved it!
