I'm not entirely sure that this book was needed. Yes, I loved Four in Divergent, but I wasn't that big of a fan of Tobias.

What I enjoyed about this book was seeing some of the side characters in their earlier days. Zeke, Uriah, even Eric. The relationship between Four and Eric was nice to read and so were the parts about how the faction of Dauntless actually runs. We didn't get to see that in Divergent since the uprising happens. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I put it off for so long, buying it and then just kind of forgetting about it. I picked it up for a reading challenge it fit and I’m so glad I did! It really put me right back into this world and made me miss Divergent and want to reread it.

I really liked hearing things from Four’s perspective, especially about his early experiences. Getting all that background added to what we already know from reading the Divergent trilogy. All the buildup was ...more
