08/04/2022: Reread on audiobook!
I can't believe that I never left a review the first time that I read this. This book was abso-freaking-lutely fantastic! It was mesmerizing from the very first page. I was totally engrossed in the story. I love Meyer's writing style and her storytelling is fantastic. I loved the plot twists and the interesting way that the author orchestrated this unique retelling of Cinderella. The parallels were really exciting to see unfold. Cinder is the second fairytale re-imagining with a futuristic/sci-fi twist that I've read this year and really loved, the other being A Long, Long Sleep. I ended up loving both of them.
I've never been a huge fan of the Disney version of Cinderella, and this version of Cinderella pretty much turns the Disney version on its head. Cinder is in many ways, the anti-Cinderella. She doesn’t wait around for other people to rescue her. She is smart and industrious, and she was such a fun and interesting ...more

I really wanted to love this story. Cinder was interesting to read about and her cyborg additions were just fascinating to hear about (I did both audio and book for this one). The world was so immersing (the plague, the holograms, the old vs new cyborg, even the "car" find at the dump, "New Beijing"...all of it was just fun to explore!!)

“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.”
One of my favorite takes on Cinderella. The main character Cinder is a cyborg and a really good mechanic. Her life gets a little no a lot tangled with Prince Kai. When he was her to fix his Android for him. And that day her stepsister gets sick and her step-mom blames Cinder.
“She was a cyborg, and she would never go to a ball.”
We start to see more about Cinder's past about in the middle of the book. And how it impacts the now. ...more

I give Cinder a 4.5. It was really a very good book, easy to read and a different take on a futuristic Cinderella story. I would have given it a 5 except that I have to admit it was easy to figure out the twists.
I was pleasantly surprised to read Cinder. I had no idea I would like this book as much as I did, as I am not a big Sci-Fi reader. I loved how the author added certain familiar parts to Cinderella and then very much made it it's own story. ...more

What a journey! I devour every piece of this book. The beginning didn't strike off as something so special to me but halfway through the book, I found myself can't stop reading this book! Full of unexpected twist, which is so awe-inspiring. Marissa Meyer really thought everything out. Iko is sooo adorable and Cinder is a very strong female character. I love the character, the plot, the twist, everything. Cinder definitely went through some character development in this book. And all the characte

I was really worried about this one- I mean a cyborg Cinderella? Despite all of those naggingly pessimistic thoughts, I pushed myself to read since it was such an interesting premise. I can only say positive things about this book that was more Science Fiction than "fairy tale adaptation." Such a solid story! I cannot wait to see what else this "budding and beautiful" debut author concocts next!

I had heard so many positive and great things about The Lunar Chronicles, but it took me a little while ot get the itch to read them myself. I've just read the first in the series, Cinder, and feel very happy that I finally got around to it. I loved this. The cyborg twist on a familiar fairy tale, a futuristic society struggling with disease and the possibility of war. It is so well written, so completely addictive to read, and with sci-fi and fantasy elements to make fans of those genres happy.

I am a sucker for re-worked fairy tales. I don't know what it is about them that calls to me.
This one had a slightly different premise - Cinderella as a cyborg in the future. I think that this story would have had more appeal, in the end, if Meyer hadn't tried so dang hard to hit on every last moment of the original story - down to the ball.
Surprisingly, the only thing that redeemed it, in my opinion, is that some of the events (view spoiler) were un ...more

I love retellings of classic fairy-tales and I think this is one of the most inventive that I have ever read. Cinder was amazing and I had a hard time putting it down, even though I wasn't surprised by the revelation of who Cinder is. I remember stopping at one point in excitement and asking my daughter (after explaining what was going on) did she agree with what I thought was happening. We were both right. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

I'm not sure where this book fell short with me. The story was an interesting idea, the world was neat, but the execution of it all just fell really flat and I couldn't get into it. I may try to read the next one and give this author another chance. It's her first book so maybe 2nd time's the charm?
