Retellings is currently my favourite genre and Naomi Novak one of my most read authors, I even bought this book and had looked forward to it. In reality neither the genre nor the author managed to make a book that I enjoyed reading The tale of Rumpelstiltskin, on which this book is based, is perhaps a 5 or 6 page story for children, Novak has stretched this to a hefty 480 pages, in my opinion she could have done away with at least half of them.
