I liked this book. I enjoy this trope quite a bit and Emily Henry did a pretty good job of portraying it. I think Miles as a love interest was great and he had hidden depths which was nice to see. I also liked the found family aspect of this book especially which was born from Daphne and Miles' tour de Waning Bay (such a cute idea, probably my favorite thing out of the whole book).

I do have some complaints about this book: the first of which is that I can't believe Emily henry wrote a main char I liked this book. I do have some complaints about this book: the first of which is that I can't believe Emily henry wrote a main character that acted this dumb and genuinely built her whole life around a man. I've only read two of her books and from those I assumed that Emily Henry's main characters are typically independent women, who do think for themselves and have a decent amount of self respect, and not women who would rearrange their entire lives around a man and talk themselves down all the time. I kinda lost respect for Daphne as a character once I learned about her actions and saw the way that she always talks down to herself. There's a difference between understanding who you are and burying yourself and Daphne was 100% on the wrong side of that line. She did change though, I will give her that. Character development did occur and in the right direction. My other complaint about this book is how it felt like Emily Henry couldn't figure out if she was writing a fake dating book or roommates to lovers books. (Now you're probably thinking, isn't that basically the same thing? No, no it's not.) A fake dating story is typically a slower burn with more pining while a roommates to lovers is typically like a friends to lovers or a one night stand to lovers type situation, where there is attraction that is acted upon. It was weird in this book cause they'd intensely make out (read between the lines here please) and then pine and then rinse and repeat but each one goes farther. Not what a fake dating should look like (which should be intense pining followed by acting on the attraction). Anyway all that to say not the best take on the fake dating trope but a decent book. ...more

I think Emily Henry's books just get better and better. She's going to be an auto by for me from here on out. I love how her books bring me all the feelings.

I started off disgusted with Peter for being a jerk and doing what he did to Daphne. I loved Daphne the whole way through the book. Miles was perfect and sweet and I love that he really enjoyed Daphne's company and always put her first. Of course it's a 5/5! I had so many emotions come up during this one!! It's so weird when you see so much of yourself in an MC like this...and relationships as well. This has to be one of my all time favorites from EH!! ❤️ ...more

Daphne & Miles

I couldn't even imagine finding myself in a situation like this. Daphne moved to be with her fiancé only for him to later dump her for his best friend. She had a very short turnaround to pack her crap and move and he was such a jerk about it.

The best friend she was left for also dumped her boyfriend, Miles. Miles who spent years trying to be good enough for someone who didn't deserve it, but at least he wasn't homeless.

Miles and Daphne become roommates, then friends, then more.

Cute story. I was snorting with laughter quite a bit in this book. The two main characters were a gem. I loved watching their growth throughout the story. Not just as a possible couple, but also individually. The side characters were a hoot and I would read any story written for Ashley or Julia.

This one was so good. I loved the way their relationship developed, how he was part of the community - and helped her integrate, and the side characters. Overall, a compelling return to good romcom after the last book which ended up being disappointing.
