When Ethan was ten, he used to sleep in his backyard every Friday with his best friend Billy. Until one morning, he woke up and the tent was cut open and Billy was gone. I know this one has very mixed reviews, but this might be one of my favorites by Sager. It had intrigue and mystery but it was also very heartfelt and sad. My heart broke for both 10 year old Billy and 10 year old Ethan. Both boys went through things they should not have at an age so young. Some of Sager's earlier books are some of my favorite thrillers that I still frequently recommend, but the more recent ones haven't felt up to the same bar. However, I found that I really enjoyed this one. There atmosphere starts of strong and creepy, but a reveal about 75 pages in kind of took the wind out of those sails.
