I think it took me over a month to read this one. Honestly, I could not understand why everyone loves it. The writing style was nothing impressive, none of the characters were anything special, and it just seemed to have no plot. At 70% it still felt like the start of a story, maybe even a bit of the middle. It just doesn’t have that usual story progression or anything really building towards a conflict or drama. What a great first book to suck you into a series, especially with that ending! I loved the dueling emotions you feel with sympathy on both sides, and the world building was pretty well done. Diem was a bit frustrating at times, with the decisions she made, but in the same regard, I completely relate. She is a young girl, dealing with her morality in a twisted world, trying to do what she thinks will be the most helpful. And haven't we all made stupid choices?
