Getting a glimpse into the life of Jennette McCurdy and everything she went through to get where she is today, just goes to show that you don't really know what what someone is actually going through.

I have kids who watched her on iCarly, and I saw her on some of the shows and movies she mentioned while she was growing up. I assumed, as most people do/would, that she was living a glamorous life or close enough to it.

Sadly, we find out through stories like these or some that are even more tragi

Auto-biographies are amongst the most difficult books to rate. Because there's two criteria - is it an interesting story to share (not everyone's is unfortunately) and was it presented in a way that was enjoyable to read.

Jennette's life story was absolutely worth sharing, particularly with the newest show exposing Nickelodeon. But I'm not fond of the extreme short chapters and some of the glossing over important parts of the underlying story.

Jennette became an actress because her mother wanted

Re-read for book club. This was still so hard to listen to, despite already knowing the story. But I also still absolutely love the therapy and eating disorder treatment section. It's such a positive, good example of how helpful therapy can be. ...more

I work in a hospital and I often think how happy I am to have a boring life. I felt much the same way while listening to this book.

I'm not sure how to rate this. It took me forever to get through this book and maybe because I barely new the author/actress. All of my kids know who she is but I've never watched an iCarly show ever in my life. I feel for this poor girl and all that she endured at the hands of her mother. The one person who was supposed to protect her and warn her about anorexia/bulimia not tell her how to stay skinny and young. I cannot believe some of the things this poor girl had to go through.

Disclaimer: I didn't watch iCarly and really had no idea who Jennette McCurdy was until this book came out. I picked it up because it was chosen for one of my book club's this month and because of all the chatter about it. However, even without the background, this book was compelling and I see why it's received such rave reviews. I listened to this on audiobook, narrated by McCurdy, and it was difficult to hear but definitely grabbed me. It has some very notable commentary about child acting, t ...more

This was very interesting and also sad to learn about all the background to Jennette’s life behind the scenes. I hadn’t seen the shows she was in and had no idea what was going on for her, this wasn’t an enjoyable read but it wasn’t meant to be. I can’t imagine how hard it was to write this and put all this out there into the public. I’m glad she’s able to focus on herself and continue to work to become stronger with everything she’s gone through to get to where she is today.

I’m still pondering on this one and think I will be for a long time. I know Jennette grew into a young adult through the course of this book but I still couldn’t help but view her as a child just vying for her mothers love and approval all while fully believing she truly just wanted what was best for her. The parts of conversations with her grandparents were also such eye openers on how this family’s dynamic was and continued to be. I’m in the group who sure hopes that this book gives her more, ...more

This wasn't at all bad, don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand why this merited such rave reviews. ...more
