I wanted to read Haymitch’s story and waited quite impatiently for it to come to fruition. Knowing everything that I did, it still broke me! I had an idea what was going to happen, but I didn’t expect the sheer cruelty of it. While I think I would have liked to his story without knowing anything about Haymitch; I don’t think the story would have held my interest or been as powerful.

So my least favorite thing about prequels is that the reader already has a bunch of information about the story that hasn’t occurred yet. Especially in a book like this where the main character is participating in a death game and we know he survives. So that part of it, not super great.

In my heart, I knew that’s how it would end, but I didn’t want to admit it!
This is the first PREQUEL book. I’ve read for this series. And I really appreciate how it provides additional Panam lore to the original series. It also Feels a lot more grown-up and a lot more detailed than the original books, but at the same time easy to read and a page turner for sure.
