This was a weird book but interesting too, especially as I have not read a fantasy involving necromancy before.
I really liked Gideon who is just the kind of character i love reading about with her wit, sometimes dark humour and spunk. The interactions she has with Harrow are fun. The way their relationship changes and develops from mutual hatred to reliance to understanding and more was very well done.Forced to go along as the cavalier (second in command or soldier) to Harrow in a competition n ...more

It's a good book, but a very, VERY slow starter. Additionally, Muir puts a lot of work on her readers to figure out the missing context. Which is great, but until you realize what's missing and that it's important to be engaging with the text like a detective, makes this a bit of a drag.
