This book has to drop one star because, although as beautifully written as ever, so much time is spent on the looooooooooong search for Verity. Even I was starting to get exasperated with the lack of action and I am a devoted Hobb fan. This trilogy was a re read and I was far more impressed this time than when I first read it.

4.5 stars. A great ending to a terrific series.
Though the middle of this story was a little slow, this was a terrifically enjoyable story that picks up shortly after the end of book two.
Everything is terrible, except for Nighteyes, and Fitz travels from Buck to Tradeford to the Mountain kingdom, and much further, as he aims to find himself and a purpose after Chade and Burrich revive him. Fitz is hurting, and angry, and has no rest as he’s chased relentlessly.

The first time I read this I read it *after* having read the LiveShip Traders Trilogy. That was a mistake, although perfectly doable given that there is a completely different cast of characters save one (and you may not figure it out until well into the story), and it takes place elsewhere as well, although still in the same world (think Venezuela instead of the USA).

I had to let this one settle on a night's sleep before rating it.
There were times when I wanted to give this book 3-stars, because while I enjoyed it all the way through, it wasn't as tension packed as Book 2 and it moved slowly for most of the book. But then there were times I wanted to give it 5-stars because Hobb further develops characters I have come to love and wraps up all her loose threads nicely.
So I settled on 4, which is good because I didn't like it quite as well as Book 1, which I ...more

I'm left with a quiet contemplation after reading this one. The reversal and build-up was satisfying and I the extensive exploration of skill use alone made the novel very interesting, but I was left feeling forged, myself, by the realization of what the elderlings were.
I'm going to dive right into the next trilogy in preparation for continuing Fitz's other adventures.

Long audiobook was long. 38 hours! But good! I was captivated from the first chapter. I liked this even more than Royal Assassin. A road trip with great new characters. I didn‘t take notes during the read and all I can think of to write about would be a spoiler. Poor Fitz.

As fantastic as when I first read it. Truly one of, if not my favourite trilogy. Well worth the re-read.

Where do I start? As I mentioned in my reviews for the previous two titles, Hobb’s writing style is effortless and beautiful. What amazes me even more is how she creates such complex and fascinating characters through a first person narrative. Yes, we have epigraphs, but it is still a tour de force. We see all from Fitz’s tainted lens, but if you pay attention, you can read between the lines some of what is actually happening (Austen does this too, especially in Emma), and I absolutely loved gat

I'm in the minority as this was my favorite book in the Farseer Trilogy
I'm sure it's because most of the book involves a quest- I bet you could guess that from the title, right? I love quest stories. Any time characters travel together and have adventures on the road, I'm there for it. And since I have already grown attached to most of these characters from the previous two books, I was already primed to love being with them for a long time.

This was probably not quite a 4 star book but the appeal of the series as a whole makes up (for me at least) for some of the annoying parts of this concluding volume.
Somehow despite the seeming never-ending whining of FitzChivalry and the interminable length of time that the story takes to get or go anywhere, I found the book quite good. I’m sure the stellar writing helped and the world was fantastic.
