I really wanted to like this book, and it started off great. Loved the setting, the mystery, the writing and descriptions, and the narrator for the audio book was excellent. However, after 200, 300, and even 400 pages I really started to get impatient with all the hidden meanings and mysteries and just wanted to know what the heck was going on. Phew! Good golly but that was a slog. There was a bit of payoff towards the end - hence the third star, which is there purely on a trial basis - but not as much as I had hoped for.
I found it amusing that the only likable character in the book was introduced on page 645, and stayed for exactly nine pages.
