Re-Read 5/14/18:
So I'm revising this down to four stars. Why? Because it is, conceivably, the weakest of all the volumes. It's not that it's bad, but that so many crappy things happen... or are caused by... the characters I love the most.
Too much whining, too much indulgence, and just when they're both acting the most selfishly, FATE has to intervene.
So. Crap. This is the downturn. This is the start of a tragedy that, fortunately, is not forever. Things GET BETTER. *Sob* But first, sometimes, a ...more

This was dark!
In the 4th volume of this truly fast-paced (and yet still deep) series, we follow Hazel when she's still a toddler and living on a planet called Gardenia. Her mom has taken a job, her father tries to raise her, granny is reading all day - oh and they acquired a very funny pet.
Meanwhile, some pretty nasty shit goes down in Robot Kingdom and The Will's sister as well as his former ragtag band are also still in the game.

Vaughan keeps the focus on relationships rather than action. Especially marriage and parenthood and the challenges of it.
Is this something I want to read about? Probably not.

Awesome, of course.

This volume is a hair more interesting than the previous parts of this story, but mostly, it's more of the same. Without the visuals, the story would be pretty conventional.

A slight drop off in action from the last couple volumes, but this story is so fucking good that it doesn't take away from my enjoyment.
Loved the ending, excited for the next installment! ...more

Our favourite interstellar, Romeo-and-Juliet-but-with-a-happy-ending family is having a hard time.
Our volume starts with Hazel's family setting down tentative roots on a neutral planet, fighting to make a living while staying under the radar, and facing all the stumbling blocks that come when a family loves each other, but jobs and bills and life just starts to get in the way.
And then, of course, it's all in the foreground of the space opera shenanigans that we've come to expect from Saga.
