Stockholm Syndrome, anyone?

The Mayor has the upper hand and a stronger mind than anyone. I feel sorry for Tod and Viola for the most part, and the telepathy angle is growing a bit more interesting, but it's really the descent into evil that captures most of my imagination.

As it should, I'm sure. This dystopian SF was designed for the YA crowd and while it is very decent for what it is, the plot is not quite as strong as the characterizations and the world building is kinda lacking.

If you're loo

Patrick Ness is a genius. It's a fact, plain and simple. He inspires me to write my own dystopian with a plot along the lines of this:

In the distant future a boy named Patrick lives in a war torn village called Ness. The past seven years have been filled with bloodshed as the Nessians fight the people of the villgage closest to them, the Collins. When Patrick starts to doubt the world he lives in, he must choose what book series to love, The Hunger Games or Chaos Walking, and whether or not th

Let me tell you about how I had my life ruined by aliens. The Knife of Never Letting Go was a great book. I loved it, and I've been recommending it like crazy. But The Ask and the Answer completely blows its predecessor out of the water. So much happens in such a (relatively) short book, it's a wonder people's heads don't explode while they're reading it. I loved it, and before writing this review I was going to just give it a 4 stars/Essential rating, but now I've decided to go with All Time Fa ...more

Again a few details that bothered me/didn't add up imo plus the sudden jumps in the story/scenes which made it sometimes hard to read but other than that WOW, just wow! So I'm definitely rounding it up to 5 stars this time.
I must say I don't care too much for the MC, Todd, and usually when that happens I don't care much for the story. But in this case quite the opposite is true. So much happens. As another reviewer mentions, it deals with a lot of important (and current) topics like fem

Part 1 had me in tears with the wee dog, this one was emotional too. I love the way Todd interacts with his horse to reassure her.

Dear god I inhaled this book.

So good. Characters continue to develop and tug heart strings, villains and allies aren't all you'd think - perfect. I cannot believe this is marketed as a kids/YA series because jesus it is incredibly brutal.

Struggled with this one alittle bit. I didn't like it as much as the first book. Getting ready to start listening to the third hope it goes well. ...more

Absolutely loved this second book in the series! It was also one of my kids' favorite books that we have read together in 2021.

This is a dystopian novel done right. The character interactions are superb. The political factions and inner conflict are smart and well crafted. All of that left us gut-punched with what happened at the very end of the novel. And we thought we were wrecked in the first novel!

Such an excellent series!
