Loved this! My favourite of the Grishaverse so far, the story is set 3 years after the defeat of the Darkling. Nicholai is far and away the most charismatic main character we have had from Bardugo, but we get to see a more vulnerable side to him and to Zoya too. It was a great pleasure to see the return of Nina; her first few chapters, still very much grieving Matthias , were heartbreaking. We also have others from Alina’s team- Genya and David, Alekt. This book was so good, the team work from S

Since I had some trouble with Wonder Woman: Warbringer I was a bit worried that maybe Bardugo had lost her touch for me, but it turned out I needn't have been concerned. While things start off a bit slow in King of Scars, it quickly finds its feet and turns out the kind of Grishaverse story I have loved in the past.

This book continues the narrative of the Grisha from the first trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. The story is mostly told from the point of view of Zoya Nazyalensky, member of the Grisha Triumvirate and closest companion to King Nicholai of Ravka, and also from Nina Zenik, who is again acting as a Ravkan agent, this time in a remote part of Fjerda. Oddly enough, while these stories are told in alternating chapters, the two storylines never meet and actually happen with over a thousand miles

After starting this and reaching 13%, I gave up. It just didn’t pull me in. Then friends started giving it 5 stars so I thought I’d try again. Until I reached 20%-ish it was just a book but then I became involved and once again cared for the cast drawn from previous series’.
I enjoyed it a lot after that point and took 4 days to complete it.

Not gonna lie, I thought this was pretty boring. Nikolai is one of my favorite characters from this world, and I feel like Bardugo did him a disservice by incorporating multiple POVs and plot lines. King of Scars read more like the Grisha trilogy than the Six of Crows duology; definitely NOT what I wanted. What little action there is got bogged down by the endless emotional conflicts I care nothing about. It's like reading the diaries of moody, melodramatic teenagers. None of Nikolai's charisma
