This is a nice character-driven paranormal mystery with a pleasant slow burning romance. Also, there are books and librarians involved which is always a plus for me. The pace is spot-on and the story is simple and linear, the main strength of the book is the protagonists who, as their surnames suggest, have very different approaches to reality and to overcoming hurdles.

Librarians, vampires - you’d think this would be my perfect cup of light entertainment. Well...not exactly.
The general premise interested me, and ultimately, I did not mind B and Gio, even giving them plenty of time for character and relation building. The slowness of the narration didn’t bother me since I was curious to see how it would all develop, including some compelling secondary characters and references to the Italy of the 15th century. Is he a vampire or maybe not? Does he sparkle? Is he truly the nice guy he presents? An immortal softie on a mission?
I really liked the beginning of the book, the characters and the set-up. The backdrop story of Renaissance Florence offered great opportunities.
Sadly, the middle part was entirely bland and lacked any kind of suspense. The interesting beginning flattened out, the romance was lackluster, the mystery did not really evolve. Everything just trickled along at a snail‘s pace. By the t ...more
