When I saw all of the high reviews of this book my first reaction was this is just a bunch of hype. Boy was I wrong. This book is really that good.
Character driven, suspense infused and well developed plot.
I really don't know what to add to the other reviews.
If you read for enjoyment, get busy!

I have had a strange response to this book.
I heard about it a while back and it had remained in the back of my mind as something I'd like to read. I love a good post-apocalyptic story that is all about piecing together what is happening now and what happened to cause/further the apocalypse in question. So it seemed this should be just the book for me, but somehow I never got around to it.

The ending is too simple for all the difficulties and suffering the protagonist has been through, though. But the story is engaging enough to continue reading the trilogy. The next one, according to the teaser at the back, is about si

The characters were compelling and well drawn. I liked the way the truth about the world was gradually revealed. There were many plot twists I did NOT see coming.
Very occasionally, I thought the writing style itself seemed juvenile and annoying. (For example, in the knitting scene. Also, why was that scene even there? And I say this as a knitter myself.) But it was only very occasional.
I want to read more about this world!
