A sweet fairy tale, with just enough darkness that it isn't saccharine. A bit of romance, a bit of sarcasm, a bit of royal intrigue, and a changeling child who loses his heart to a fallen star. What could be more delightful?

This was a nice book. It was light and entertaining. It did nothing to elevate me, move me, or enlighten me. It didn't educate me or confuse me. I liked it a lot, but it was like brain candy, not a steak and salad.

This was a skinny little fairy tale, but one I enjoyed. It's certainly not the best fantasy I've ever read, as it is just too slight to leave a deep impression, but the characters were charming. I can't wait to see the film, which seems perfectly cast.

I thought this was all right, but not particularly distinguished when compared to other fairy-tale-ish fantasy works. For some reason, nothing Neil Gaiman has written has ever really set me on fire.
