I'm the author of this book, so I'm not going to do a rating but I did want to take just a moment to say a few words about what I was trying to do in this book.

For those who don't know, I wrote all six books in the series before publishing any of them (truth be told when I wrote the books I had no intention on publishing at all). This allowed me to weave threads between the books, but I made sure that each title had its own conflict and resolution. My intention was to start small and end big, wi

I was actually more interested in the afterword, where the author talks about his adventures in selling this book in various ways. (Self-published, small press, traditionally.)

The main passage that caught my eye: "For years now I have he

I am happy to say that has been changing as I've been exposed to more character driven fantasy series. This one certainly ranks among the top of the list. I am rarely drawn in so quickly to the characters and the surroundings in a fantasy story.

A fun story, with acceptable writing. I did like the two main characters by the end, but none of the others really stood out all that much. I may continue the series eventually, when I'm looking for another fun+easy read. ...more
