Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! I finished this book with full-body goosebumps and chills!

This is SUCH great thriller sci-fi. I mean, killer mermaids?! What more do you really need in life. Super page-turnery, a fantastic cast of fleshed-out characters (more flesh for the mermaids to eat? Hahahahaha, I digress), bisexual main characters, climate change repercussions...it’s just a TERRIFYING and FUN read! If you’re trying to stop biting your nails, this is not your best choice of books, because YIKES, the

Hungry, carnivorous, killer mermaids. What more could one ask from Mira Grant? You know you need to read it.

Its a rare situation where a book drives me to write a review.

To start off, while I like horror, I am not a slasher/monster type horror. These subgenres bore me to tears. I am not a reader of action. Action scenes that drag on also bore me to tears, or more likely a nap. While I adore Science Fiction, the same aspects in it also put me to sleep.

Ideas people, IDEAS!

And, to start off, this book had ideas, and then it turned into a bad B horror movie.

By absolute coincidence, I started listening to this September 2, 2022, and am therefore listening in real time (alternate history-wise). This is even better than when I accidentally read The Dark is Rising during Chistmastide. ...more

I am a big fan of Mira Grant's books and this was no exception. This one features mermaids. But not your beautiful, lure sailors to see mermaids. These were terrifying monsters of the ocean. We follow Troy and a robust cast of other characters as they set off to prove that mermaids really do exist after a previous venture failed years before with Tory's sister and others being killed while at sea. I presume these are the events described in the prequel which I have not read. You definitely do no ...more

I liked this book but didn't love it; horror at sea. There seems to be a lot of "padding" which probably has to do with the fact that it was originally published as a novella-probably a better read ...more
