I quite enjoyed Jemisin’s historic and award-winning BROKEN EARTH trilogy, although I have previously been unimpressed by her writing. (I could not finish the first book of the INHERITANCE trilogy).

I expected to be impressed by this collection of Jemisin's short fiction, having been highly impressed by all of her novels that I've read. I'm delighted to say it delivered on all counts. While I liked some stories better than others, I don't think there was a single dud in the book.

Easily the most passionate short story collection I've ever read -- Ms. Jemisin's writing is at its most beautiful when she's at her angriest, and there's a lot of anger here and a LOT of beauty. The stories themselves are very different from each other, though a lot of them are future/post-apocalyptic, and there are themes of social injustice, climate change, bodily autonomy, and cooking(!)
