I loved this series. However this last book, I thought, he took it too far into the future. I think it would have been a stronger book if the universe wasn't so bleak and humanity had found some way to survive. As it is, he carried it out til the bitter end of our universe and beyond. A true 'deep time' book. It's very hard to write science fiction that concurrently spans 10-figure years And creates a credible technology that truly brings in new ideas, e.g. 3D to 2D. Depressing ending.
