This book was so interesting! I still am not sure how an octopus shows shapes on its body but the concept is intriguing. The story, set in a not too distant future, has 3 interesting storylines, a communication mystery, and an element of danger.

This is Ideas Science Fiction at its core, with little care for prose & character. I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest Ideas Sci Fi guy if it sells those two things down the river.
It’s definitely the kind of book I want to revisit one day, because I think I would like it better the second time around. As it is, it never quite hit for me. I anticipated a tale akin to Jaws with tentacles; however, what unfolded was a plethora of philosophical musings. This book dives into many profound questions, such as the essence of being "alive" and the complexities of human communication with other species. Themes of capitalism, slavery, and various other subjects are explored. The essays were interesting and well-written, but the book as a whole was far from what I was expecting or was in the mood for. ...more
