Permafrost by Alastair Reynolds is a time travel novella that is tailor made to my likes. I am a biased reviewer as Reynolds might just be my favorite author today and hard science fiction is my genre of choice.

What a fabulous read,
I've been reading a lot of time travel books this year so this one fit right in. While the writing and characters were strong points, the goal of the time travel was a little fuzzy for me.
We meet a cast of characters working on a ship to engineer time travel to the past: Antti, Vikram, Christos, Miguel, Margaret, Peter, and Cho, as well as the main character, Valentina Lidova. A hardish Sci-Fi about time travel after an environmental collapse in the near future. An easy afternoon read.
I have to be careful not to over-think time travel stories. This one was good.
