For unknown (to Earth) reasons Earth has been cut off from the wider galaxy, and its tech is as behind the galactics' as the city of Shantiport's leaders are corrupt. Generations of them have slowly, repeatedly, sucked all the resources and money out of Shantiport. Now the city is gradually sinking and the main source of money seems to be from tourists who come to gawk at the former trade capital.

This has elements of sci fi with intelligent robots, advanced technology, and space ships. But the story is really about an honest, hardworking and poor family in a sinking city who are battling against crime lords and corrupt leaders. Thrown in the mix are a pair of Jinn who offer to grant wishes to the person who let them out of their lamps. This plot driven story is a humorous tale of righting wrongs. However, it isn't very deep and the characters are somewhat flat.
