Dragon's Egg is a cross between Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement and Microcosmic God by Theodore Sturgeon. In my opinion it rates right up there with them both.

I thought this was an excellent book The concept was brilliant. A neutron star with a race of cheela who's 100 years is equal to one hour of our lives. A research space ship from earth finds them and the rest is a fantastic story. I must admit a lot of the science was somewhat beyond me, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book. I have now ordered the sequel, Starquake. This book was printed in 1980 and I gather didn't get a fair shake of the stick.
