Revisiting a classic. This is a massively formative SF novel for me. When I was just getting started, reading the very best that I had heard about or whatnot, I was reading this side by side with Dune or Stranger in a Strange Land, and at different times, I was more WILD for the cyberpunk than any other kind of SF for years.

In my head, it had ALL the promise of bridging our reality with an all-too-plausible future -- which, in fact, we now have. Thugs, massively outfitted private security force

What a good book . It really deserves the awards it won: Hugo, Nebula, & Philip K. Dick. Not just for the story – which is a fun ride: down&out Matrix hacker Case is bribed/blackmailed into working for a mysterious cipher, Armitage, and given a partner – the original mirrorshades gal, Molly. But who is Armitage working for, and what is a nature of the job that needs to be done? Plenty of action and angst – but what made this book so influential was the milieu. wow what a ride ! Definitely needs a second or maybe even third read to fully understand what is happening though ..

Now what to read next, continue down the neuromancer rabbit hole (have the next 2 books in the series along with burning chrome) or give my mind a break?

Wow. Well that was not what I was expecting at all. I thought I'd be muddling through a lot of techno-babble, trying to convince myself I liked a book that was really just a chore to read. What I wasnt expecting was that his writing style would be so. dang. beautiful. Each paragraph is a poem that paints an incredibly vivid scene. This is a visual experience. I only wish the characters were as fleshed out as each scene he created. ...more
