About 60 pages in the book drew me in and it was a very fast and pleasant read. Good writing style. There were moments where I was slightly annoyed with Rachel for being stubborn for stubborness sake. She admited often that she did thinks purely to be contrary and after awhile that gets tiresome. Over all I did like her. The plot was interesting, the other characters as well and the setting has a lot of promise in this weird religious/sci-fi way.

I have owned this book for about 10 years but finally got around to reading it. I think it was the premise of angels that made me resist. I'm not religious and that seems like a bunch of hooey. But when I accepted it as a Fantasy world with some creatures that just *happen* to have wings, then I just got swept into the story. I'm not big on reading series, but this one kept me going. I wouldn't mind going back to Samaria. It's interesting how it feels like fantasy, but it's definitely science fiction with a basic romance plot thrown in.

I thought this was interesting and a decent story until the end, when I realized that I wasn't fully convinced by the romance. The handling of the religious ideas seems ... not very deft, though.
