What Members Thought

This book has my whole heart.

This is the "September Book" for my Mock Newbery group. This one is a winner! It is the one to beat. It is such a well-constructed epistolary novel. Fabulous timing. Incredible characterization. I would recognize Bett, Avery, and Gaga if I saw them on the street. I was so happy that the authors did not fall into the trap of the cliche happy ending, even though the ending was happy. The ninth book I've read for Mock Newbery 2020 and the best!

First of all, it was hilarious to me that the audiobook narrators had to read so many re's (as in "Subject: Re: Re: Re: You Don't Know Me"). It went from funny to annoying to funny again as the re's piled up. It must be a great audiobook if all the re's didn't make this too annoying to continue listening.

I love this book :) Somehow it just captured the sweetness of pre-teen girls who tried to navigate their lives in the middle of unconventional families. The matchmaking of their Dads and their time at summer camp had a bit of Parent Trap vibe.
I actually prefer if the book is written not in email format, but the emails are pretty cute too - I like it when Bett and Avery started with hostility and became best friends with the nicknames (Dogfish and Night Owl!!)

Delightful epistolary novel for the middle grades!
Most of the story is revealed through emails between two 12-year-old girls whose single dads have fallen in love. I adored their voices!

Fun read, using all emails, letters and voicemail to tell the story. It didn't feel awkward or forced into the format. I feel like the dads weren't very realistic in their actions, jumping into making their daughters friends before they had really settled their relationship, but it was an OK read.
