This is the best children's book that I have read in 2021, and I have read some good ones. This novel in verse takes on fat-shaming, the last accepted prejudice, and other types of bullying. It is Fipps first book. I do hope that she is working on her next book because I can't wait. I love the strong, positive female protagonist, the clever language, the teachers, and the triumphant ending. (Was that a spoiler?) This book nudges BLUBBER (Blume, 1974) into the 21st century with the social media c

The way I feel about this book is very similar to how I felt about Genesis Begins Again. It's just too depressing for me. I had to put it down and walk away.
There is nothing subtle about the way Ellie is bullied at school and at home and in public. It's just like sledgehammer after sledgehammer of emotional brutality.

A book that is necessary! We need to help kids understand that body shaming in a thing! Your "funny" comments aren't funny to everyone. And when it happens in the home..... that's just the worst. Everyone needs to hear Ellie's story. She is a brave, brave girl learning to stand up for herself! She has the two best of friends on the planet too! We need more Ellie's, Viv's and Catalina's!

I wish I'd had this book when I was in middle school.

This was a difficult book to take in. I hope I can have a better understanding regarding people who struggle with weight issues.
