Graphic Novels are just not my thing. This is probably the first one I have read cover to cover. The story of an 11 year old gang member in south side Chicago is interesting but the abbreviated format of the graphic novel just didn't leave me satisfied as a reader or seeker of information. I don't feel like I learned much more than I would have had I just skimmed headlines. I don't feel qualified to evaluate the spare prose or art. Intense and brutally honest, this portrayal of an inner-city kid's involvement in a gang and subsequent run from the police is based on a true story. It may be a book every teen needs to read: kids in the suburbs because they won't likely have experienced it themselves, and kids in the city because they should see the real-life results of getting involved in a gang.

Thought provoking read. More to come once the story settles

This graphic novel is one of the most popular books of the middle school students at Jenner School in Chicago. Two Jenner students actually got into trouble because they were fighting over it. Of course, I had to read it. A heartbreaking, true story of an 11 year old boy newly inducted in a Chicago street gang. I wonder if the Jenner kids saw it as a cautionary tale.

Heart-breaking and thought-provoking, with a great message for young people, especially those in high-risk situations. Definitely worth a read!

No winners in this situation. This GN tackles the tough subject of gang violence.
