Rick Riordan, you've done it again. Fans of Percy Jackson will eat up this new series that has many of the same characters as the Percy Jackson series, and the new characters will be loved just as much as Percy, Annabeth and crew. In fact, I think I might like Jason, Piper, and Leo even more than the Percy gang. For people who haven't yet read the Percy Jackson series, I think you'll enjoy this book, but I'd recommend reading the Percy Jackson series first because then the visits from old friend

An oath to keep with a final breath,

I started out really not liking it because it was EXACTLY like Percy Jackson, but I did give it some slack cuz he kind of wrote Percy Jackson, but nonetheless. All the same things happened at the beginning except everything just popped out "Oh look I'm a this" "Oh look I can fly" I really hated how everything just happened and he already knew what everything was, but after a while I got over it and really enjoyed the book.

Do I keep reading the prolific Mr. Riordan because I enjoy his books or so that I can be a well-informed librarian? Both reasons, actually. In case anyone's been hiding under a rock, this one is set in the same world as the Percy Jackson books, but follows three new characters. Riordan definitely hasn't run out of stories and creatures from mythology, although he does mix things up a little bit here with more Roman mythology, and he hasn't run out of jokes, either. A must for fans - he doesn't d

Entertaining, lots of great info about the gods, and Riordan's really creative in his plotting. A fun read, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Great fun -- I may have liked it better than Percy Jackson!

Students have inspired me to re-read this series. Can't believe how much I forgot! Off to re-read Son of Neptune.

Maybe my expectations were raised to high. However, I found this book to be extremely long. I thought it could have been tighter and better edited. Plus, I did not find Jason to be as sympathetic as Percy. Maybe it is impossible to make an amnesic character truly well-rounded and with depth. I did find Leo and Piper lovable and with the enticement of Percy appearing in the next story I will continue reading. Probably 3 and 1/2, it kept me up late.

Recommended Ages: grades 4-9
Jason, Piper, and Leo, three students from a school for "bad kids," find themselves at Camp Half-Blood, where they learn that they are demigods and begin a quest to free Hera, who has been imprisoned by Mother Earth herself.
I really liked this book. I thought it was a neat idea bringing in the Roman myths. Can't wait until the second book comes out. ...more
