This book reminded me of a cross between The Hundred Dresses and Stargirl. Both of those books were influential for me when I was young. Naturally, I loved this.
EEK does a lot of neat things narratively. Here are a few that stood out to me:

Kind of like a junior version of Stargirl. The tiny town of Fawn Creek doesn't often get newcomers. So when a beautiful new girl exotically named Orchid shows up in the 7th grade class one day, everyone is entranced by her. Orchid has lived all over the world and she's kind to everyone. But the popular mean girls don't like the fact that everyone is drawn to Orchid instead of them, and they are determined to put her in her place...
