A really sweet book about sea otters written in verse. I definitely learned a lot about otters near the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was so sweet that I got teary-eyed. Adorable illustrations too.
Katherine Applegate does it again. She has taken a real animal’s story and offers it to us in a children’s book. Unlike Ivan, Odder is cared for by humans rather than exploited. This book has everything: information, a lovable protagonist, a captivating story told in verse, a satisfying ending, and a wonderful list of follow-up resources. It very well could be Applegate’s second Newbery.
